Your Black Sea cultural tour will start in Ordu, one of the most impressive cities in the region, with its adorable natural scenery and cultural landmarks.

First, visit Ünye Castle, which is an impressive historical site on a rocky hill surrounded by the unforgettable green scenery. The castle’s deep-rooted history and ancient walls bear traces of various civilisations, including the Kingdom of Pontus, the Romans, the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) period, and the Ottomans.

Legends add to the castle’s appeal. It is said that a princess with magical powers once ruled here and hid a treasure within its walls, guarded by a curse. Locals still believe her spirit protects it, adding a mysterious atmosphere to the site.

Afterwards, set off to explore Cape Jason, known for being one of the unique and special places linked to the ancient myths, including the legend of Jason and the Argonauts, who searched for the Golden Fleece. Some local tales also connect the cape to Odysseus, suggesting he may have sailed past its shores during his long journey home.

You can visit the historic Jason Church, an Orthodox church restored in the 19th century. While here, don't forget to enjoy the sunset view from the lighthouse on the shore. After visiting these two magnificent places, you should try Ordu’s famous flatbread, mostly known as “Ordu Yağlısı”.

On the second day, you will visit the most important historical buildings of Trabzon and also enjoy the unique Black Sea cuisine. When you hear “Hagia Sophia,” İstanbul may come to mind, but Trabzon also has one. Built in the 13th century during the Eastern Roman period, it reflects a blend of cultural influences. Its frescoes, stone carvings, and architecture make it a notable example of medieval Eastern Roman architecture in Anatolia.

Afterwards, take a break in the town of Maçka for a meal. You can taste local and traditional Black Sea flavours such as kuymak (a rich cornmeal and cheese dish) and döner. It is the perfect way to enjoy a hearty lunch and a cup of black tea in a scenic mountain setting before continuing the tour.

Then, continue to the Sümela Monastery. Embedded in the steep cliffside and overlooking a forested valley, it is one of Türkiye’s most iconic religious sites. Built in the 4th century and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the monastery features chapels, monks’ quarters, a library, and remarkable frescoes, all set within a striking mountain landscape.

Surrounded by lush forests and dramatic scenery, Sümela offers both a serene atmosphere and a strong visual impact. It is a memorable final stop, where the monastery’s cliffside setting leaves a lasting impression.
