While thinking about İstanbul,

street food is the first thing that comes to mind for locals and foreigners alike. The first day of our route takes place in Beyoğlu, the heart of İstanbul’s street-food culture, where you can enjoy some of Türkiye’s most delicious vegetarian street flavours.

Start in Taksim with roasted corn, sold by vendors all along the famous İstiklal Street. This beloved traditional snack is the perfect companion for your day of exploring İstanbul.

If you’re looking for other street-food stops, you can head to Cihangir for Turkish-style pickles or to Galata, where vendors sell freshly roasted chestnuts. In Galata, you can enjoy your chestnuts while exploring the historic neighbourhood.

Around Cihangir, try Turkish-style pickles made from a variety of vegetables using traditional methods, free from additives. You can also visit the famous 100-year-old pickle shop, featured in the iconic 'vinegar or lemon?' debate scene from Neşeli Günler, a beloved classic of Turkish cinema from 1978.

Today’s destinations on the vegetarian street foods route are Eminönü and Fatih. You will set out to taste the unique street flavours while wandering through the Historic Peninsula.

On a lovely afternoon in İstanbul, the Historic Peninsula is one of the most beautiful places to explore the city’s past and culture. In Eminönü, taste the famous rice pilaf with chickpeas before starting your trip. This uniquely Turkish delicacy, prepared at various spots around Eminönü Square and along the shore, is a gateway to the local culture and a perfect meal for you.

If you enjoy spicy foods, you should definitely try çiğköfte, a local delicacy renowned for its flavorful blend of spices and diverse garnishes. It’s one of the best vegetarian street food choices for those looking for authentic flavour.

At the end of the day, drink boza in the Vefa neighbourhood of the Fatih district. It is a traditional Turkish fermented drink made from millet, and has a thick texture with a mildly sweet and tangy flavour. Boza is often topped with cinnamon and roasted chickpeas. Make sure to try these uniquely İstanbul flavours before leaving the Historic Peninsula.

On the last day of the route, the beauty of İstanbul's sea views will come together with the rich flavours of its vegetarian street food. Our destinations, Ortaköy and Kanlıca, will amaze you with their delicacies and sea views.

Firstly, sample Kumpir (Turkish stuffed baked potato) in Ortaköy. This simple but delicious street food can be customised to suit your tastes. Its main ingredient is potato, but you can also add various garnishes such as mezes, olives, or vegetables as you want.

Then, take a ferry ride accompanied by a unique sea view to your next destination, Kanlıca. Before boarding the ferry, you can make your trip even more enjoyable by grabbing a crispy simit from one of the street vendors.

The ferry ride promises a unique day with its scenic views and historic waterfront houses. Once you arrive in Kanlıca, enjoy its famous yoghurt with sugar, which will refresh you with its distinctive taste.
