Çavuşin, located between Avanos and Göreme, is a small historical village and one of the oldest settlements in the region. Administratively connected to Avanos, included in the Council of Europe’s European Route of Ceramics, this unique village reflects its deep-rooted history with well-preserved stone-carved houses that evoke a medieval atmosphere.

One of the village's most important cultural heritages is traditional Turkish handicrafts and the transmission of this tradition through various workshops. You can explore these handmade products, which reflect the fine craftsmanship of wood and leather, in the village’s small artisan shops selling handmade souvenirs, leather goods, and woodcrafts. If you're especially interested in handicrafts or looking for a new experience, you can join one of the local workshops in the area.

After experiencing the region’s cultural heritage, you can also enjoy the region’s historical and natural sites. While in Çavuşin, visit the famous St. John the Baptist Church, a stunning rock-cut church which was built in the 5th century. Old cave homes, nearby valleys like the Rose and Red Valleys, or local delights are also worth exploring. You can rest at one of the region’s authentic stone-carved hotels after a full day of discovery.

On the second day of your route, head to Mustafapaşa Village to discover Cappadocia’s heritage of traditional craft. Mustafapaşa, also known as Sinasos, was named the Best Tourism Village in 2021 by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). The village has a rich cultural heritage, blending the influences of different societies, and has become a haven for art lovers. Local artisans specialise in some traditional Turkish crafts such as stone carving, textile arts, handmade dolls, ceramics, and pottery

You should visit the Cappadocia Art & History Museum, which is also known as the Doll Museum. It houses over 2,000 intricately crafted dolls, each dressed in traditional attire and carefully handmade by local artisans. In addition to this tradition, Mustafapaşa is also famous for its finely carved stone façades and detailed masonry, seen in the historic houses of the village streets. This architectural style highlights the exceptional stonemasonry skills preserved from the 19th century and the multicultural heritage of the Mustafapaşa Village.

In this village, you can also participate in handicraft workshops such as pottery, stone carving, and doll making. The rest of the day, explore the village's historical sites and taste local cuisine at its elegant restaurants. At the end of your day, you can choose a cosy and historical stone-carved hotel for accommodation and experience the authentic spirit of Cappadocia.
