1

In the Morning

First, start with a hearty Turkish breakfast, where you can sample local delicacies like cheeses and handmade bread. Then, walk across the Gölyazı Bridge for a fresh start to your short trip and take photographs of the scenery.

You can also see the Weeping Plane nearby, a tree symbolising impossible love. It was named in memory of two lovers whose story ended beneath its branches.

Continue your discovery by visiting the St. Panteleimon Church, which is now primarily used as a cultural centre. While admiring the inner architecture of the church, you can also visit the art exhibitions and attend the activities.

Until noon, wander around Gölyazı’s streets and take photographs of the cosy village.

2

At Midday

In the afternoon, take a break to rest and sip a Turkish coffee at one of the lakeside cafés. Then, set off on a brief boat ride across Lake Uluabat, cruising over its calm waters. As you watch storks drift above the surface, you’ll finally step ashore at Gölyazı.

Afterwards, continue your walk through its narrow cobbled streets. The remnants of ancient Apollonia ad Rhyndacum quietly whisper stories of Eastern Roman (Byzantine) life, while old stone houses and shaded courtyards invite you to pause and imagine the centuries that have passed.

3

In the Evening

After soaking up the peaceful atmosphere and visiting these ancient remnants, go back to Gölyazı’s centre for dinner and shopping.

For dinner, choose one of the lakeside restaurants to try Gölyazı’s freshwater fish. You can eat catfish, fried carp or trout, served with Turkish shepherd’s salad and refreshing ayran.

Close to sunset, head to Zambak Tepe (Lily Hill) to see one of the most beautiful landscapes. For the rest of the evening, you can visit the boutique shops in the village to buy souvenirs to remember this cosy and short journey.
