Day 1

On the first day, begin with a ride on your bicycle along the lakeside road through Göllüce and Boyalıca. The lake’s view will amaze you with its unique blue hues and the reflections of the bright sun on it. You can stop along the way to take photos and enjoy a picnic by the shore.

Then, take a break to explore the historic town of İznik, one of the Cittaslow members in Türkiye. With its ancient walls and remarkable structures such as the Hagia Sophia of İznik and the Green Mosque, the region is like an open-air museum for history enthusiasts. After your break here, continue riding to reach Boyalıca and complete your cycling route.

After your ride is finished, go to Keramet Village to enjoy the natural thermal springs surrounded by nature. Let the hot waters there relax your body and mind. Rest in a boutique and cosy hotel in the village for the next day’s destinations.

Day 2

On the second day, begin the day with a ride along the shore of Lake İznik to Sölöz Village. The cycling route between Keramet and Sölöz villages offers some elevation and beautiful views of the lake from above.

Sölöz is a charming historic village near the lake, known for its traditional Ottoman-style houses, peaceful tea gardens, and ancient plane trees. You can take a break and explore local walking trails, visit small artisan shops, and experience authentic village life. After wandering through there, continue toward these quiet rural roads and make your way back to İznik in the afternoon.

While you’re near the town centre, visit the enchanting Underwater Basilica, a fascinating archaeological discovery submerged just off the shore of Lake İznik. Believed to date back to the 4th or 5th century AD, the basilica was likely dedicated to St. Neophytos, a Christian martyr.

The site is not accessible for swimming or diving without special permission. However, it can be clearly seen from the shoreline or via a drone. There are viewing platforms and informational signs along the İznik lakeside walking path. You should visit the historic site that awaits just metres from the water’s edge before leaving İznik.

You can try fresh lake fish for dinner at one of the lakeside restaurants. To rest and recover from a long cycling day, you can relax at one of the lakeside boutique hotels close to the town centre with a beautiful view of the lake.
