Bozcaada and Gökçeada are two of Türkiye’s treasured Aegean islands. These islands are adjacent and have a rich history. Bozcaada is mentioned in the Iliad as Tenedos Island, and according to Herodotus, Pelasgians were among the first settlers.
Pelasgians have also been established in Gökçeada. Throughout history, both islands have hosted a variety of civilisations. Bozcaada is also noted for its stunning wind turbines, which attract visitors from all over the world. Gökçeada is well-known for its wonderfully smelling streets, particularly the aroma of wild thyme, which provides a memorable experience.
Let’s discover the beauty of these islands together, in this 4-Day Aegean Island Holiday.

Day 1: Bozcaada Town Centre and Ayazma Beach
The town centre of Bozcaada is full of charming residences and cafes, the pathways are paved with colourful cobblestones, and the vibrant speech of the locals is a delight. Bozcaada, a beloved destination among Türkiye’s cultural communities, attracts thinkers and creators from around the world. It's understandable, given how inspiring the island is.
Begin your day at Bozcaada with breakfast at a beachside café. Beautiful pastries and egg dishes will complement your freshly brewed coffee. Bozcaada is well known for its windy weather; therefore, be mindful of the draft.
After a lovely breakfast, head to one of Bozcaada's most popular beaches, Ayazma Beach. Ayazma Beach is famous for its blue sea, excellent golden sand, and cool water. The cold water of the Aegean Sea revitalises your entire body and soul, and lying on the warm sand after a swim in it is even more enjoyable. Because of its popularity, there are many accommodations available near Ayazma Beach, as well as sunbed rentals.
To find additional private beaches near Bozcaada, visit Sulubahçe Cove or Mermer Burnu, often known locally as Aquarium Cove due to the abundance of fish in the sea. Mermer Burnu (Aquarium Cove) is also a professional diving centre, but you can also explore the spectacular underwater terrain by snorkelling.
Day 2: Bozcaada Vineyards and Castle
Every August, Bozcaada celebrates the region's grape harvests. The region contains local growers and vineyard owners, and everyone on the island joins together during this wonderful harvest season. As in the past, the harvested grapes are transported to the ceremonial location by donkey, horse-drawn cart, tractor, and whirligig, accompanied by live music.
The castle hosts concerts and two competitions throughout the festival. The competitions choose a grape beauty and the best Çavuş grape from among the island's young females. This is an event that brings people together, and its rich traditional past is breathtaking. Even if you don't visit Bozcaada during harvest season, vineyards are worth exploring year-round. After exploring the magnificent vineyards, head to the stately Bozcaada Castle. This majestic castle's origins are unknown, but it has been renovated and rebuilt numerous times throughout history. The castle's recent repair was completed in 1996. The castle is divided into two parts: the inner and outer parts, which comprise an infirmary, a mosque, a minaret, dungeons, barracks, an ammo depot, a fortification area, and training areas. This historic castle displays centuries of development in a single architectural marvel.
Day 3: Gökçeada Gizli Liman Bay and Türkiye’s Westernmost Point
On the westernmost point of Türkiye, there lies a Cittaslow town: Gökçeada. The moment you enter the town centre of Gökçeada, the smell of wild thyme and lavender surrounds you. Street vendors sell dried thyme and lavender all around. As if the town is the centre of beautiful herbs and aromas.
Similar to its neighbour, Gökçeada streets are furnished with cobblestones. Sit in a corner cafe and enjoy the rattle of footsteps around you. Maybe you’ll journal your beautiful journey around these islands, maybe you will drink a glass of refreshing Koruk (a special grape) juice. After you remember, there is a location you may visit that marks the westernmost point of the country, and take the road again.
To reach the westernmost point of Türkiye, you will need to pass through Uğurlu Village. Why not make a stop at Gizli Liman Bay? Gizli Liman Bay is a secluded beach with no particular buildings around. However, you will find the most beautiful beach there. The thin sand of the bay connects you to a cave.
You can swim to Gizli Liman Bay Cave, which provides a lovely experience of swimming in a lagoon. The sea's water green tint suits everything perfectly. After swimming in Gökçeada's emerald sea, you can trek to Türkiye’s westernmost point. Take a keepsake photo here; these are the moments to save and remember.
Day 4: Aydıncık Beach and Salt Lake
You’re on the last day of this incredible journey through the Aegean Islands of Türkiye. Wake up to the beautiful windy weather of Gökçeada and head to the most popular beach of the island: Aydıncık (Kefalos) Beach. Aydıncık Beach is the only beach where you can find overnight accommodation. This beach is 1200 metres long, and the sand carries golden hues all around. The turquoise waters shine in the sunlight.
Did you know that in Gökçeada, it's possible to go kite surfing 300 days out of the 365 days in the year? If you are into kite surfing or you’re interested in starting a new water sport, you can have amazing kite surfing experiences here. The overnight accommodations also work as a surfing centre where you can find and rent surfing equipment. You can also take beginner classes here and discover the beauty of kite surfing in the Aegean Sea.
Aydıncık Beach is close to the Salt Lake in the region. Salt Lake is a lagoon that attracts migrant birds like pelicans, wild ducks, and geese in the spring. In the summer, the water of the lagoon evaporates, and a beautiful salt surface emerges. Especially during the nights of the full moon, Salt Lake becomes magical.
The stars above are just beautiful, and with the moonlight, you can feel processing every single beautiful thing you experience during this trip. Deep thoughts and beautiful sentiments are shared all around Salt Lake. One can only be so lucky to feel what Gökçeada offers to you.
