Day 1: Beaches in and around Marmaris

Your journey begins on the Mediterranean edge of Türkiye, where İztuzu Beach stretches for nearly 5.5 kilometres, curving like a sandy arrow between the sea and the delta. Here, Caretta caretta turtles have nested for centuries, and visitors can experience the rare delight of swimming first in salty waves, then steps away in the freshwater of a narrow channel.

The beauty of the region is not over. Not far offshore lies Cleopatra Beach on Sedir Island, a place wrapped in legend. Its golden sands, believed to have been brought from Egypt by Mark Antony as a gift to Cleopatra, are unique to only two places in the world. Walking the island, travellers also encounter Hellenistic and Roman remnants: a theatre open to the sky, the outlines of an agora, and fragments of an ancient harbour.

After you discover the two incredibly unique beaches of Marmaris, return to the city centre, where the rhythm changes. Uzunyalı Beach stretches out in a lively 10-kilometre promenade where cafés and restaurants spill onto the seafront. You rest in the pretty cafes of the Uzunyalı Beach, maybe drink an iced latte, or two. Uzunyalı Beach seamlessly connects to İçmeler Beach, featuring Blue Flag waters and a relaxed 6-kilometre stretch of sand where families stroll in the evening breeze, and water sports fuel up the day.

If you are to go a little bit further, the coast bends into Turunç Beach, once a small fishing village, now a retreat of quiet beauty. Olive groves and pine forests lean down towards rugged hills, and here the Aegean meets the Mediterranean in a landscape that feels both remote and timeless.

Day 2: Orhaniye and Kızkumu Beach Experience

On your second day, leave Marmaris behind; you will see the road narrows and then opens into the sheltered embrace of Orhaniye, just 2.5 kilometres beyond. The water here gleams with an emerald tint, coloured by the reflection of pine forests that ring the bay. As you will see, the surface is so calm it resembles polished glass, broken only by the gentle stroke of swimmers.

Across this mirror-like sea lies Kızkumu Beach, a natural sandbar stretching 600 metres into the water. History also clings to the bay. On a small island, the remains of a castle believed to belong to ancient Baybassos stand watch over the water, rewarding those who climb its slopes with panoramic views.

Near the entrance to the gulf, Martı Marina hums with yachts anchored year-round, while a monastery’s mosaic floors still glint under the sun. Here myth, antiquity, and nature converge, turning Orhaniye and Kızkumu into one of Marmaris’s most strikingly memorable coastal experiences.

Day 3: Quiet Bays of Selimiye

The final day of your quiet gems of the Aegean trip leads further along the Bozburun road, a wide asphalt ribbon that runs from Orhaniye into Selimiye Bay. Yachts sailing the Bodrum–Marmaris route find safe harbour here, mooring in waters so clear and still that the surrounding hills reflect like a painting.

Along the waterfront, small family-run restaurants offer simple tables by the pier, serving fish caught that morning, delicate kabak çiçeği dolması (stuffed zucchini blossoms) and seafood stews enriched with olive oil and bay leaves.

Two kilometres beyond the village lies Sığliman Bay, where sand slips gently into shallow, bright water. It is the closest place for a swim, a serene spot where the pace slows even more than you imagine. Continuing along the coast, Hisarönü Bay opens with its reddish sands and a long shallow shoreline.

The air is always breezy and dry, carrying a reputation for easing the breath of those with asthma or heart conditions. Here, between the rhythm of the sea, the taste of local dishes, and the layers of history that linger in the hills, the route from Marmaris to Selimiye comes to a gentle close, three days of stillness and discovery in the quiet paradises of the Aegean.
