Day 1: Şarköy
For the first day of the Tekirdağ vineyard route, Şarköy will be the perfect place to discover local grape species, traditions, and famous vineyards of the region. It is one of the most beautiful summer destinations and a Cittaslow member in Tekirdağ, renowned for its vineyards, festivals, and beaches, along with its rich and deep-rooted traditions in viticulture.
You can visit local vineyards to learn about traditional and modern grape-growing techniques, soil conditions, and the native grape varieties that thrive in the region’s climate. You can enjoy a peaceful picnic among the vines, taking in the sea breeze and stunning views of the Marmara coast. You can learn from vineyard workers or owners about the vineyard’s cycles and the cultural significance of viticulture.
This day, filled with grapes and tradition, showcases the fertile history of the region's land. After exploring Şarköy and its vineyards, you can spend the night in one of the comfortable and relaxing vineyard houses nearby.
Day 2: Mürefte
The other day, you will hit the road for Mürefte, which we can also call “The Town of Vines”. This coastal village in Tekirdağ is a well-known destination with a centuries-old tradition of grape harvesting.
With its numerous vineyards, where special grape varieties native to Thrace are cultivated, exploring this region is an unforgettable experience. Savour the distinctive character of Tekirdağ’s fertile soil by tasting the unique Yapıncak and Papazkarası grape varieties.
You can visit numerous vineyards and taste both grapes and various products made from them. In addition, elegant restaurants where you can experience the unique flavours of the city will accompany you on this gastronomic journey. Wandering through this tranquil seaside town and taking a dip in its serene waters is a wonderful way to spend the rest of the day. You can choose charming hostels or authentic vineyard houses for your accommodation.
Day 3: Hoşköy
Your journey will end with a visit to Hoşköy, which means 'Pleasant Village' in Turkish, a quiet and charming corner of Tekirdağ. This coastal village is known for its vineyards, olive groves, and fishing heritage.
Ancient monasteries such as St. Ioannis, remnants from Eastern Roman (Byzantine) and Ottoman eras, and local folklore are also worth seeing while you are here. The local climate and fertile soil support traditional viticulture and olive growing alongside fishing. You should see the beautiful vineyards where Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and revived the nearly extinct Kolorko grape varieties are grown.
Tasting these grapes, each with its distinct flavours, is a journey and a pleasure in itself. After exploring the vineyards of the village, you can visit the iconic Hora Lighthouse. The lighthouse still stands, guiding ships with its rotating light, which completes a full turn every 20 seconds. As the sun sets behind the Marmara Sea, the golden glow over the vineyards pairs perfectly with a glass of local wine, creating a scene that captures the essence of Hoşköy.
