Day 1

Day 1 is packed with some of the most exciting spots in Erzurum. First off, visit the Twin Minaret Madrasa, a Seljuk architectural monument that serves as the city’s symbol. Considered to have been built in the 13th century, it showcases the intricate details of Seljuk art. A must-see place with graceful design and craftsmanship, its decorations are dominated by botanical motifs, and it includes an exhibition hall and a museum.

From there, head over to the Three Tombs, one of the stunning mausoleum examples in Anatolia. Dating back to the 14th century, these three Seljuk tombs have impressive architecture, distinguished by their conical roofs, geometric features, and animal figures.

Your next station is Erzurum Castle, which sheds light on the architecture of the Persian, Assyrian, Eastern Roman (Byzantine), Roman, and Ottoman periods. In the castle, you can enjoy a fascinating atmosphere with remarkable views and spend quality time in an inspiring historical setting.

Afterwards, it’s time to visit Yakutiye Madrasa. This structure, built in 1310 during the İlhanlı period, has the largest enclosed courtyard in Anatolia and perfectly reflects the city's historical and religious roots.

In its details, you can see important symbols of the Central Asian Turks. Moreover, Yakutiye Madrasa houses a significant collection of artefacts. Considering its layout plan, well-balanced architecture, and large adornments, it is an iconic sight to behold.

For lunch or dinner, you have a vast collection of Erzurum tastes to try. For example, “cağ kebabı” is the most iconic dish of the city. Prepared by cooking pre-rested goat or lamb meat horizontally, it delights the palate with its exquisite flavour. “Kadayıf dolması”, among the Sultan's choice of desserts, is prepared by filling shredded wheat wth walnuts and pistachios, wrapping it like a stuffing, and frying it in oil.

Once you enjoy your meal, make your way to the Erzurum Ulu Mosque. Built during the Saltuklu period, the mosque has a hilltop architecture reminiscent of a swallow's nest and offers a striking synthesis of local elements with its elegant structure.

Day 2

From the mountains to lakes, Erzurum is nature’s playground. And your second day is dedicated to enjoying pure outdoor bliss.

After breakfast, set out for Palandöken Ski Resort, one of the top winter sports centres in Türkiye. The resort’s snow quality, modern facilities, and many activities, including paragliding, ice skating, paintball, ice hockey, and ice climbing, make it very appealing to winter enthusiasts worldwide.

Once you've made the most of the slopes, continue your route to Lake Tortum and Tortum Waterfall. Lake Tortum is a popular destination for various bird species. Surrounding the lake are two islands, Ayvalı and Küçük. You can enjoy a peaceful boat ride on the lake.

The view created as the water plunges 48 metres into the lake at the 21-metre-wide Tortum Waterfall is also breathtaking. You can have picnics and take breaks in the recreation areas reserved for visitors, capture unique views while walking on the hiking trails, and participate in rock climbing activities.

When hunger kicks in, a variety of local soups and meat dishes never disappoint. “Aşotu soup” is a popular option, prepared with yoghurt, wheat, eggs and onion, and flavoured with coriander.  “Kete”, another famous pastry, is simply amazing when consumed with cottage cheese, jam, or honey.

To wrap up your day, visit the Fairy Chimneys of Narman. Wind and rain eroded the sandy earth over 300 million years, forming the striking landscape of red fairy chimneys and narrow valleys. This magical spot will leave you in awe and make you feel your journey is worth it.
