Day 1

On the first day, explore Akdamar Island with its centuries-old church and be enchanted by the stunning view of Lake Van. You can also indulge in the famous Van breakfast along with the city’s unique local flavours.

Head to Lake Van in the morning to start your day with the region’s famous breakfast, accompanied by stunning lake views. Here, you can relax and enjoy the scenery before exploring the iconic Akdamar Island.

Upon arriving at the island, you can first visit the 10th-century Church of the Holy Cross. As one of the island's remarkable historic structures, it is renowned for its stunning frescoes and unique architecture. 

Then, take a walk around the island’s peaceful trails, enjoying panoramic views of Lake Van and the surrounding mountains. Photography enthusiasts will find plenty of picturesque spots to capture the natural beauty and historical charm of the island. 

For lunch, you can enjoy the Lake Van speciality, pearl mullet fish, at one of the local restaurants nearby before heading back to the city centre. Alternatively, you can head to the picnic areas with gözleme made from the famous Van herb cheese, and enjoy a quiet meal surrounded by nature.

In the evening, enjoy the illuminated views of Van Castle and browse the local markets for handcrafted souvenirs. For a more filling meal, sample other local specialities like kebabs or hearty meat dishes at traditional restaurants. You can go back to your hotel to rest for tomorrow’s destinations.

Today’s route is focused on Muradiye Waterfall for a day full of nature and tranquillity. You’ll also have time to explore the city centre for the rest of the day.

At Muradiye Waterfall, you can enjoy scenic walks along the trails in the heart of nature. Take photos of the cascading waters and surrounding nature. Have a relaxing picnic lunch, and take a break in the peaceful atmosphere away from the city’s hustle.

After exploring the waterfall and the surrounding area, you can return to the city centre and continue your discovery. You can visit the Hüsrev Pasha Mosque, a 16th-century Ottoman masterpiece. Then, browse local markets for handmade woven products like rugs and kilims. 

End this route, enriched by the blend of nature and culture, by tasting Keledoş, a traditional Van dish made from yoghurt, grains, and meat. It’s the perfect way to experience the authentic flavours of the region and complete your journey.
