Day 1:
Begin your journey with İstanbul’s most iconic structures and one of the peaceful parks in the heart of the city. Today, you will discover these destinations in the Historic Peninsula:
- Haghia Sophia
- Sultanahmet Mosque
- The Basilica Cistern
- Gülhane Park
In the morning, visit Hagia Sophia to explore its interior and exterior during its quietest hours. The structure stands as a symbol of cultural and religious transformation over nearly 1,500 years with its massive dome, rich mosaics, and blend of cultures.
Then, head to the Sultanahmet Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque, due to its stunning interior decorated with over 20,000 handmade İznik tiles in shades of blue. The mosque was built in the 17th century and is still an active place of worship today. History enthusiasts must see its six minarets and the enchanting blue tiles that cover the inner walls.
After exploring these sites, you can enjoy popular street foods for lunch. Balık ekmek (fish sandwich), kokoreç, and midye dolma (stuffed mussels) can be perfect and authentic delights for gaining energy.
Your discovery will continue with the Basilica Cistern, an impressive underground reservoir supported by 336 marble columns and stunning Medusa head sculptures. The place was designed to store water for the Great Palace and nearby buildings, but now it enchants visitors with its unique interior architecture. Illuminated by colourful lights, its columns and sculptures evoke a mysterious and enchanting atmosphere.
Go to Gülhane Park, a peaceful garden adorned with colourful tulips and roses, to relax and feel İstanbul’s spirit. Then, try the famous kebap or lahmacun for dinner to sample the most delicious delights of Turkish cuisine. At the end of the day, you can go back to your hotel to rest for the second day of the route.

- Topkapı Palace

Therefore, it is recommended to plan spending at least 2–3 hours here to fully explore the palace, especially if you include the Harem section.
Before heading to the Süleymaniye Mosque, you can rest at one of the nearby cafes and take a Turkish coffee break. Taste its rich flavour and experience a tradition that dates back centuries in every single sip.
Next, you’ll visit a grand and unique mosque dedicated to Suleiman the Magnificent. The mosque was built in the 16th century in memory of the grand Ottoman Sultan, and today it greets visitors with majestic minarets and a uniquely harmonious interior design.
