Day 1: İztuzu Beach

İztuzu Beach is one of the well-known beaches that serves as a natural habitat for the rare loggerhead sea turtles. While you’re waiting for the suitable time to observe the Caretta caretta hatching, you can wander through Dalyan’s natural wonders.

With its shallow, calm waters and fine golden sand, İztuzu Beach is one of Türkiye’s most beautiful coastal destinations for a peaceful vacation. By joining boat tours, you can see the ancient rock tombs in Dalyan.

Just nearby, the Kaunos Archaeological Site and its well-preserved remnants create a contrast with the lush natural surroundings. Then, go on nature walks in the area and take photographs of the scenery. You should also try the unique flavours of Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine at the restaurants.

To protect the loggerhead sea turtles, access to İztuzu Beach is restricted between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. For the same reason, camping on the beach and using bright light sources are also prohibited.

During the Caretta caretta hatching season, it is recommended that you participate in guided tours or volunteer activities to observe this natural phenomenon. Witness the miraculous moment when Caretta caretta hatches from its eggs and reaches the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean.

Day 2: Sarıgerme Beach

Sarıgerme Beach near İztuzu will be the next destination to observe the Caretta caretta hatching. On the second day of your route, explore another authentic plant species along with the magical loggerhead sea turtles.

At first, you should see the beautiful and rare sand lilies, a unique flower species that grows exclusively in the sandy soils of the Mediterranean and some parts of the Black Sea coasts. This flower, which grows on the sandy part of this beach, will enchant you with its scent and beauty.

Then, visit the impressive Blue Cave, located near the beach, on a boat tour. Sarıgerme Beach, a natural sanctuary for rare animal and plant species, is also a wonderful place for photography enthusiasts with its natural beauty.

In Sarıgerme Beach, there are also restrictions on loud noises, bright lights, and individual access to protect the loggerhead sea turtles. You can join tours organised by associations or official institutions to observe the Caretta caretta hatching.

These turtle species hatch from their eggs, especially around sunrise. Witnessing their journey to reach the endless sea is an unforgettable experience. You should immortalise this wonderful memory by taking photographs of this natural phenomenon.
