Golden Horn Rowing Tour – A 10 km Rowing & Cultural Experience in the Heart of Istanbul

Golden Horn Rowing Tour – Istanbul

Would you like to row through the calm waters of the Golden Horn, right at the heart of the historic peninsula? The Golden Horn Rowing Tour is one of the most delightful ways to discover Istanbul’s mesmerizing silhouette from the sea. Accompanied by bridges, mosques, and landmarks that carry traces of different eras of history, this tour offers both a sporting challenge and a cultural discovery.
Route: Unkapanı Bridge → Eyüp Sultan → Unkapanı (Round Trip)

Starting Point – Tersane Istanbul (Unkapanı Side)

The tour begins at Tersane Istanbul, where modern city life intertwines with history. In the very first meters of your rowing journey, you’ll be accompanied by the silhouette of Galata Tower, the grandeur of Süleymaniye Mosque, and the rhythm of the Unkapanı Bridge.

Stage 1: Unkapanı → Ayvansaray – Tekfur Palace Area

As you row along the tranquil waters of the Golden Horn, you’ll see the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Istanbul, the Iron Church, and remnants of the Byzantine walls on the right bank. On the left, the Hasköy shores and the view of Santral Istanbul accompany you. Thanks to its sheltered and wave-free waters, this stretch is ideal for rowing.

Stage 2: Ayvansaray → Eyüp Sultan Mosque

At the narrowest and calmest part of the Golden Horn, you row under the shadow of the Eyüp hills and arrive at the historic Eyüp Sultan. From above, Pierre Loti Hill greets you, while centuries-old plane trees and the Eyüp Sultan Mosque welcome you at the shore. This section of the route offers a unique spiritual atmosphere, making the experience truly unforgettable.

Stage 3: Eyüp → Unkapanı (Return Leg)

On the way back, the morning light gives way to the silhouette of the city. With the rhythm of your oars, Istanbul’s breathtaking scenery – bridges, domes, and the historic peninsula – turns the tour into an unforgettable journey.
