
Italy's most internationally renowned contemporary dance company, Aterballetto, is coming to the Istanbul Music Festival with a triple programme featuring works by leading choreographers on the world contemporary dance scene. This captivating programme delves into the human body, soul and memory, accompanied by live performances of masterpieces by Beethoven and Brahms, as well as music by Gershwin and Jones.
Renowned for its high-standard productions and flawless performances, Aterballetto has been giving over 150 performances each season for nearly 50 years, both across Italy and at festivals around the world. Transcending social and cultural boundaries through projects that engage with all forms of art, utilising not only the stage but also different platforms such as public spaces and virtual reality, the company redefines the rules of virtuosity and beauty with its 16 extraordinary soloist dancers, masters of different styles.
Angelina Preljocaj, the award-winning French choreographer whose works feature in the repertoires of almost all prestigious companies, harnesses dance's power to express the inexpressible in Reconciliatio (Reconciliation), a lyrical and impressionistic duet set to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata; pursuing the hidden meanings and unseen truths in our world. Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite, whose bold and original vision has inspired a generation of dance artists, in Solo Echo, draws on Brahms' two cello sonatas and Mark Strand's poem Verses for Winter.
